Is there difference between resizing physical hard disk partition and RIAD 5 disk partition? As you know, RAID 5 is dynamic volume with higher data security and better performance. Therefore, you need to rely on professional partition resizing software that can work on RAID 5. You can use IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server, which can work on RAID 5 on all Windows Servers.

RAID 5 C Drive Runs on Low Disk Space on Windows 2003

"I have Dell PowerEdge 2950 on my PC with a 500GB hard disk plugged in, and it setup it using RAID 5 configuration. Now, the C drive on RAID 5 is running on low disk space and I want to resize the hard disk. My question is if it is possible to resize RAID 5 C drive on a Windows Server 2003 OS without losing any data? Or should I backup everything and recreate the array?"

"Can you please help me resize C drive without reinstalling on Windows Server 2003 RAID 5 without formatting the hard disk? The C drive only has little available space on the RAID, but I don't want to rebuild the array or format the hard disk. Can you give me any advance? Thanks a lot!"

Extend RAID 5 C Drive on Server 2003 by Shrinking Other Partition

If there is free space on other partitions on RAID 5, you can shrink the other partitions to produce some unallocated space with help of partition software IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server. You still need to move the unallocated space close to C drive if there are other partitions between C drive and the unallocated space. Then, you can add the unallocated space to C drive so as to get C drive extended. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server can be compatible with RAID 5 perfectly, which provides safe way and has no influence on the disk data during partition resizing.

Add Disk to Extend RAID 5 C Drive

If there is no available space on other partitions on the RAID 5, you can add a new disk to extend RAID 5 C drive. After adding new disk to the RAID 5 array, the new capacity will show as unallocated space behind the array. Therefore, you can resize disk partition and extend C drive by adding the new unallocated space to RAID 5 C drive. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server is available for RAID 5 C drive resizing even if there is no free space on the RAID 5 partitions. And with this partition software, you are able to extend C drive on Windows Server 2003 without reinstalling system or rebooting your computer. This partition software is able to free resize Windows Server 2003 partition on RAID 5 without asking you to rebuild the array or delete data.

Tips for Windows Server 2003 RAID 5 C Drive Resizing

1. As mentioned above, when C drive is running out of disk space on Windows Server 2003, you can easily extend C drive by shrinking partition if there are other available partitions on the RAID 5. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server allows you to produce free space from other partitions simply by performing several mouse clicks and drags.
2. It will be a little complex if there are no other partitions or there is no free space on other partitions on the RAID 5. In this situation, you need to add another disk to rebuild RAID 5 array, after which the new added disk will be shown as unallocated space so that you can add it to extend C drive on Windows Server 2003 RAID 5.
3. If you have to add new disk to RAID 5 array, you should ensure that the RAID controller can rebuild RAID without losing any data. In order to avoid data loss due to unknown reasons, you had better backup everything important before rebuilding RAID 5.
4. You cannot break the RAID 5 array before resizing partitions.
