Low disk space problem in Windows server 2003

You are facing space issues with your Windows server 2003. Space problem is common to experience as you go on installing software, storing pictures, videos, files. This is always recommended to do housekeeping of your computer on timely basis.

There are many ways to free up disk space. The simple steps to free up space are clean your recycle bin, windows temporary files(c:\windows\temp,) profile temp files(Run->%temp%),delete browser cache and history files. Disabling hibernation and changing the page size also release large space. Windows gives you disk cleanup tool to keep your storage tidy. With this tool, you can delete most of the unwanted files. You can right click your C drive and select properties and then select disk cleanup. You have the option to select the files to delete and it also shows how much disk space you gain after removing the files.

Extend the disk space in Windows server 2003

However, if you are looking for bigger space for your drive and releasing disk space is not helping you much then you can extend disk space. There would be a situation when you need to extend C drive. C drive cannot hold everything with limited space. When your C drive reaches its capacity, you face performance issues.

With Windows disk management tool you can extend your C drive or any other drive. If you have unallocated space next to C drive then you are lucky. Go to disk management tool and right click C drive, and select extend. Then specify the extension size.

The steps would be different if there is no unallocated space or it is not next to C drive. If it is not there then you have to delete the next drive. If you are ready to loose data then you can delete the drive. Deleting next drive creates an unallocated space next to C drive. If you have uanllocated space not behind C drive, then disk management tool is of no use. You cannot move your partitions.
