System Partition Is Lacking of Disk Space

The size of hard disk partitions is allocated randomly when installing the hard disk on a computer, so the consequent problem occurs. Some partitions are allocated with a large size, while some partitions are small. Nothing can be much worse than system partition lacking of disk space on a computer, especially on a Server computer such as SBS 2003, because operating system related programs and data are installed on this partition. Now, what idea can you come up with to solve the problem about system partition low disk space on SBS 2003 Server?

Free Space on System Partition on SBS 2003

When system partition is nearly full and lacking of free disk space, most users will want to free space on the partition. In order to free space on a disk partition, it seems like that you can do nothing but deleting some unnecessary files or move some files to another partition. However, you might find that it is not as simple as you think when you begin to move or delete files from a partition especially from a system partition. The first trouble you will encounter might be that a lot of files cannot be deleted or moved from the system partition. Then, you may find that you cannot free much space by deleting or moving files. The free space will be eaten up soon.

It is not necessary to delete or move any data from system partition when there is no more free space on this drive. As a matter of fact, you can increase the size of system partition so as to make it large enough. Simply say, increasing size of system partition is a process to move free space from another partition on the same hard disk to the system partition. Do you feel it unbelievable to do such a thing? Do you think that you need to repartition the hard disk to reallocate disk space? Now, let us learn how to increase the size of system partition on SBS 2003.

Reallocate Disk Space with IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server

The traditional way to reallocate disk space is to repartition the hard disk. Nowadays, you are able to reallocate disk space without repartitioning disk by relying on a third-party partition tool like IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server. Now, we will give an example to explain how IM-Magic Partition Resizer works to reallocate disk space without repartitioning.

For example,

"There are four partitions on SBS 2003. Now, C drive (system partition) is nearly full, but the other partitions still have a lot of free disk space, among which F drive has the largest free space."

Now, we will tell you how to reallocate disk space by moving free space from F drive to C drive. First of all, you only need to shrink F drive with IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server to squeeze some free space and you can see the free space will be shown as unallocated volume. Then, you can move the unallocated volume close to C drive. Finally, you can increase the size of C drive by adding the unallocated space to C drive. If you still have any doubt, you can follow the step-by-step guide above to get C drive extended on SBS 2003.
