1. Disk Management to extend C drive
On some Windows Server operating system like Windows 2008, you can open Disk Management and
select "Extend Volumes" to extend C drive. But it requires that there is adjacent
unallocated space to C drive. If the unallocated space is not right behind C drive, the
"Extend Volumes" option will be disabled and you cannot extend C drive.
2. Diskpart command to extend C drive
You can run Diskpart command to extend C drive on Windows Server 2003 and other Windows
Servers, but it also has limitations. You cannot rely on Diskpart command to extend a
system partition. Besides, Diskpart command is only available for resizing NTFS
partition on Server.
3. Partition software for Server C Drive Extending
Partition software is a third-party tool to help with extending C drive
on Windows Server, so it doesn’t have any limitation. You can extend C drive as you
wish as long as there is free space on the same hard disk.
With this tool, you can even merge unallocated partition c drive server 2003 which is easier and faster to extend the system partition.
Windows Server 2003 and Windows SBS 2003 are two operating systems of Microsoft, which is commonly used by small business and personal computer. If you are a Windows 2003 or SBS 2003 user, you might be quite worried and upset when C drive is running out of disk space. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server, professional partition software for Servers, is able to work on Windows Server 2003 and SBS 2003 to extend C drive without touching any file on the hard disk. This partition software can also work on Windows Server 2003 R2 to extend C drive.
If you want to use Disk Management to extend C drive on Windows Server 2008, you may need to delete D drive to produce adjacent unallocated space. You cannot extend C drive by shrinking D drive, because the unallocated space produced by shrinking D drive will be located behind D drive. Therefore, you cannot add the unallocated space to extend C drive when it is not adjacent to C drive.
If you are unable to extend C drive with help of Disk Management on Windows Server 2008, IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server enables you to increase the size of C drive easily within a few steps. Although it also needs adjacent unallocated space, you can shrink any partition that has enough free space. IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server allows you to move unallocated space close to C drive.
On Windows Server 2012 OS, you can also rely on Disk Management or Diskpart command to extend C drive. However, it also has the same limitations mentioned above. If you receive low disk space warning on Windows Server 2012 C drive but fail to extend C drive space with Disk Management or Diskpart Command, you can use IM-Magic Partition Resizer Server. This partition software can help you fix low disk space issue on Windows Server 2012 by increasing the size of C drive. By using this software, you don’t need to delete any data when receiving low disk space warning, you don’t need to reinstall system or repartition hard disk to reallocate disk space.
